Learn how you can configure integration level alerts in Nightfall for Jira.
The Nightfall for Jira integration supports the configuration of alerts at the policy level and the integration level. Alerts can be sent in Jira to the following alert destinations.
When you configure alert settings at the integration level, the alert settings apply to all the policies, created for the JIRA integration. However, when you configure alert settings specifically for a policy, which is created in the JIRA integration, the alert settings are applicable only for that specific policy.
This document explains how to configure alerts at the integration level.
To use Slack as an alert platform, you must first perform the required Slack configurations. You can refer to this document to learn more about how to configure Slack as an Alert platform.
To use Webhook as an alert platform, you must first perform the required Webhook configurations. You can refer to this document to learn more about how to configure Webhook as an Alert platform.
To use JIRA as an alert platform, you must have the DLP for the JIRA app installed from the Atlassian Marketplace. You can read more about the DLP for JIRA integration here.
You can configure alerts at the integration level once you have installed the Nightfall for JIRA DLP integration.
To configure alerts at the integration level:
Navigate to the JIRA integration.
Scroll down to the JIRA section.
You can configure one or multiple alert channels.
To configure Slack as an alert channel, click + Slack channel.
In the Slack alert channel field, enter the name of the Slack channel in which you wish to receive the alerts.
Click Save.
A confirmation pop-up box is displayed to confirm if the Slack channel (entered in the second step) must be used only for JIRA DLP integration or all the Nightfall integrations.
Select No, only integration level to use the Slack channel only for JIRA DLP, or select Yes, please to use the selected Slack channel for all the Nightfall integrations.
Click + Email.
Enter the Email ID of the recipient who should receive the notifications.
Click Save.
A confirmation pop-up box is displayed to confirm if the Email ID (entered in the second step) must be used only for JIRA DLP integration or all the Nightfall integrations.
Select No, only integration level to use the Slack channel only for JIRA DLP, or select Yes, please to use the selected Slack channel for all the Nightfall integrations.
Click + Webhook.
Enter the Webhook URL.
Click Test. If the test result is not successful, check the Webhook URL.
(Optional) Click Add Header to add headers.
Click Save.
When you configure alerts to a Webhook, Nightfall AI sends occasional posts to:
To validate that the Webhook is properly configured before the policy is saved.
Periodically thereafter to ensure that the Webhook is still valid.
The response to the test Webhooks is 200
status code if successful.
An example of Webhook request is as follows.
This is part of alert event consumption and can be ignored.
Click + Jira Ticket.
Select a JIRA project from the Jira Project drop-down menu.
Select an issue type from the Issue Type drop-down menu.
(Optional) Add comments to be added in the JIRA ticket.
Click Save changes.
A confirmation pop-up box is displayed to confirm if the JIRA settings configured for the JIRA DLP integration must be applied to all the other Nightfall integrations too.
Select No, only integration level to use the configurations only for JIRA DLP, or select Yes, please to use the selected JIRA configurations for all the Nightfall integrations.
When an Event is triggered, Nightfall sends a notification to the end-user whose actions triggered the Event. While notifying the end-user, Nightfall also sends a text message. You can draft the text message to be sent to the end-user. This message applies to all the policies. Click Save changes once done.
Step by step instructions on installing the Nightfall for JIRA integration
This document explains the process of installing Nightfall for Jira.
The installation of Jira integration requires you to have the following prerequisites
An Atlassian tenant with Jira enabled.
You must have access and must be logged in to the Atlassian account.
Jira and Confluence are both products of Atlassian. Hence, the installation procedure for Nightfall for JIRA and Nightfall for Confluence is similar with a few minor changes. You must first log in to your Atlassian account on which you wish to install the Nightfall for Jira integration. This login must be done on the same browser from which you are accessing the Nightfall application. Nightfall automatically lists all the Atlassian accounts to which you are logged in. You must authorize Nightfall to your Atlassian account on which you wish to install Nightfall for Jira. Once the authorization is completed, you must install the DLP for Jira application from the .
Log in to your Atlassian tenant on which you wish to install the Nightfall for JIRA integration.
Log in to the Nightfall application, in a new tab, from the same browser, used to log in to Atlassian.
Click Integrations under the Configuration section.
Click Manage for the Jira integration.
If you have not yet subscribed to the Jira integration, the Manage button is replaced by Contact Sales button. Click Contact Sales to sync up with the Nightfall sales team to discuss how you can subscribe to the Jira integration.
You can see that Nightfall lists the Atlassian accounts to which you have logged in. In the following image, there are two Atlassian accounts.
Click + Add Site to authorize the Atlassian account.
If you do not have Confluence or Jira set up on your Atlassian account, you cannot see the respective icons under the App(s) column.
You are navigated to the Atlassian site.
Under the Use app on drop-down menu, choose the Atlassian site that you wish to authorize and install the DLP for Jira app.
If you have a single Atlassian account, Nightfall automatically selects the Atlassian account for authorization. This drop-down menu is active only when you have multiple Atlassian accounts.
Click Accept.
Click the Jira icon for the Atlassian account that you authorized in the previous step.
You are navigated to the Atlassian Marketplace where the DLP for Jira app is located.
Click Get it now.
Choose the Atlassian account that you authorized in step 4 under the Select a site to install this app drop-down menu.
Nightfall displays the list of Jira products on which the app will be installed. This list is based on the Jira products present in your Atlassian account.
Click Install app.
Click Get it now.
Once the installation is completed, you can view a pop-up box at the left bottom of your screen. You can click Manage app to customize the settings.
When you return to the Nightfall application, the appearance of the JIRA icon changes once the DLP for Jira app is installed. This confirms the successful installation of the DLP for Jira app.
Important
Once you install the DLP for Jira application on an Atlassian account, Nightfall automatically configures the Alert platform with this Jira account. You can confirm this by navigating to Settings -> Alert platforms in Nightfall.
In the Atlassian integration page, there is a phrase attached to this Atlassian account known as Alert Destination which also confirms that this Jira is used as an Alert platform.
When you install DLP for Jira on another Atlassian account, the alert destination automatically shifts to the new Atlassian account on which the DLP for Jira is recently installed.
